Daily Stank Image Bank: “Circus Me Around” by Performance Works NorthWest

Well, I can’t tell you that I am able to fully describe this performance. One quote (very positive) was “a flock of birds with OCD“. All I know is that I am not necessarily Mr. Modern Dance and I had a great time. These pics are not the best–I am no pro photographer–but there are about 75 of them and a you can get a decent thought about what to expect.

It also gives a good idea of what it is like to watch “a flock of birds with OCD”. I definitely reccomend seeing this show before it ends this weekend.

Performance Works NorthWest/Linda Austin Dance is pleased to announce the premiere of “circus me around” at a spacious warehouse at 640 SE Stark, in Portland’s Central Eastside. Conceived and directed by Linda Austin, circus me around is inspired by the zings of pleasure and pricklings of curiosity aroused by fleeting, partial views of activities in the city landscape. For this multi-disciplinary work, architects Ean Eldred, Richard Garfield, John Kashiwabara and Peter Nylen create an environment assembled of skeletal scafflolding and a translucent shrink wrap skin, yielding various vantage points for the viewing of three simultaneous dances amid the clattering, dripping, clicking, whooping, and fluttering of Seth Nehil’s spatialized sound score. Costumes are by David Rafn and the performers. The set and bodies are stunningly enhanced by Jeff Forbes’ lighting.
