In an interview yesterday in Billboard The Dandy Warhols say they have partnered with World’s Fair Group to launch their own label, Beat the World. A new album is expected out this year. The group was previously signed to Capitol, on which it released four studio albums. World’s Fair is basically a one-stop shop for musicians and artists whose relationships with the major record labels has soured. World’s Fair manufactures, distributes and promotes just like a label all under one roof. The Dandies have not said how they will release their next album nor if they will choose to go the free route like their former label mates Radiohead, nor have they said if they’ll deliver it as part of a tiered pricing system as NIN just did with great success apparently. The Dandies are going to have to come up with a unique story beyond the “we are releasing an album” as there is no “juice” in that statement any longer.
