PORTLAND CELLO PROJECT Tuesday, 8/12 7:00 PM
Music Millennium – East 3158 E Burnside (32nd & Burnside) 503-231-8926Independently, the intimidating 8-16 cello ensemble, The Portland Cello Project (or, PCP, as their fans affectionately call them), has had a meteoric rise in the vibrant Portland music scene. With a philosophy of collaboration and building a stronger music community, the group went from filling small clubs on word of mouth, to packing 650+ seat halls and turning people away in less than a year. Cello Project performances are unique and eclectic, as likely to mix a Salt N Pepa cover with Bach as to feature orchestral support to one of the many talented musicians on the Portland scene. (The group has collaborated with Laura Gibson, The Builders and The Butchers, Horse Feathers, Weinland, Vagabond Opera, Norfolk and Western and many, many others.) Besides appearances with a veritable “Who’s Who” list of Portland musicians, the group has performed with such diverse national and international acts as Pink Martini, Japan’s Yoshida Brothers and cellist Matt Haimovitz.
