There’s a handful of places in Portland that visually recharge my batteries and serve as inspiration for my photography. Two of my favorites are alongside the train tracks on Highway 30 in North Portland and the hub of the North East. Both are true representations of what is means to live in Portland.

November 1-28: Rosey Award gallery exhibit at The Art Institute of Portland

*JC Edit: Word on the street is that Portland advertising big-boys,Weiden Kennedy (W+K), is coming with a full force presence as they have lifted last years ban…rumors of the ban reason are unconfirmed at this time and are not reported. Google turns up no results with a quick glance*

For the 50^th consecutive year, PAF is hosting the Rosey Awards, a celebration of world-class, locally created work celebrating Oregon and Southwest Washington’s Communication Arts. The Art Institute of Portland will be hosting the work in a month-long gallery exhibit. From November 1-6 we’ll have a range of entries from the Rosey Awards.

From November 8-28, the award-winning work will be featured exclusively, and will be announced at the Awards event, November 7, 2007. The types of advertising displayed include print, broadcast and interactive advertising, direct response, company literature and sales material. Oct 22-26: Evolution of a Sustainable Society featuring EcoCharge

Join the Evolution of a Sustainable Society @ The Art Institute of Portland: October 22 - 26, 2007. In an effort to bring further attention to the importance of conservation and preservation of our local and global resources, The Art Institute of Portland will be hosting Environmental Awareness Week. This week long event will feature forward thinking community speakers, hosting a sustainable living fair with several exhibitors (including ecocharge - a free standing module that uses renewable energy to charge portable electronic devices), and screening significant and impassioned films devoted to environmental awareness.

September 14th 2007: The Art Institute of Portland Graduate Portfolio Show

 

The Art Institute of Portland Graduate Portfolio Show is less than two weeks away - Friday September 14th 2007!

I’ve been attending the graduate portfolio show for the past 2+ years, eagerly anticipating the work of my fellow students, learning from their successes & failures. Now it’s my turn.

I enrolled in the Advertising program at AiPD in the fall of 2004 and for the past 3+ years it’s been a constant struggle to find a balance between school (in & out of the classroom), work and being a wife & a mom. There have been many sleepless nights to say the least and many sacrifices made along the way, but I knew the payoff would be priceless.

During my time at AiPD, I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish some pretty amazing things. Two notable items worth mentioning:

1. Recipient of the Gold Student ADDY award in March 2007 for a cervical cancer awareness public service announcement
2. Founder, VP of brashcreative (a student organized advertising agency that works with Portland businesses to develop integrated creative solutions)

Words can’t describe how good it feels to finally finish my BS and at the same time help create a legacy that other students will benefit from in the years to come.

In the last few days before graduation, I’m trying to stay sane and must remind myself that it’s ok to sleep. The infamous portfolio will live on…

September 19: AIGA presents Urban Forest Project Gala Social Event

AIGA’s SOCIO XV/ Celebration Gala

What is it?

The Urban Forest Project brings the community together to celebrate collaboration, problem-solving, and sustainable design and business choices during the week of Earth Day. This year, the initiative will culminate in a celebration of this year’s work on the project, at the yearly AIGA gala social event.
