Reminder- PDX BONES: November 7th (first wednesday) at Jace Gace

EDIT: OK, I forgot that I was working the Weiden Kennedy table at the Rosey Awards with Kristin Wall. I’ll still be there, but it will start more like 8ish and go on until whenever it dies out. If you get there earlier, I’m sure you can have a good time eating waffles, drinking beers, looking at art and hanging out with others.

PDX BONES: Part Deuce, November 7th (first wednesday) at Jace Gace

There is an evite. I don’t know how to link to it. You don’t have to RSVP, but can if you want. Just go to evite and search PDX Bones and you’ll find it. Wait, just tried and I am wrong. Well, if you aren’t on that 300+ invite list, then here is your invite and info from the invite:
PDX-BONES, Jace Gace, Portland, Oregon Domino/Dominoes Club, 97214

November 7
Jace Gace
SE 21st and Belmont
Portland, Oregon 97214

This is the second in PDX PIPELINE’s (pdxpipeline.com) series of Domino Clubs/Socials. They occur on the first Wednesday of every month. Many cities and peoples around the world regularly play in domino clubs and tournaments. This is the only known one in Portland.

We will have people playing all 5s, Mexican Train, and Texas 42. We have many sets of dominoes, but you can bring your own–hopefully not marked )

The event is FREE. We give away prizes based on no certain criteria except randomness.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO KNOW HOW TO PLAY, we will show.
YOU DON’T HAVE TO PLAY, there will still be art, music, beer, waffles, and video happening…and just socializing

Friday the 13th, Potter goes drinking, Various at Acme, PIB, Sand in the City

Friday the 13th- a special day for many, and here is ways to make it special for you..First, maybe you will be able to join Mayor Potter at Widmer Brewery for an “nooner”.

Other things to do besides watching Jason stalk people

  • VARIOUS at ACME
More Sound than should be heard by any rational person returnsto ACME. Monkeytek and crew will possibly hold their last VARIOUS featuring the best DubStep, Jungle, and Grime show in the NW (that’s right Seattle, I see you dodgeballin this event).
  • Portland’s International Brewfest(PIB…not Mr.) kicks off in the Park Blocks
Event takes place all weekend–This is not the more famous Oregon Brewfest which is coming soon. However, this sports over 100 beers, and apparently some of them are very difficult to find.
  • Yoshida’s Sand in the City in Pioneer Courthouse Square
This will go on all weekend as well. If you have not seen the sculptures and amount of work the teams (from companies like NIKE, Tektronix, W+K, etc) put into them…well, you should really see it.
  • I-bike 205
I-bike-205 is a cycling event that will accomplish two things: introduce an alternate biking route along I-205 during light rail construction, and celebrate the diverse people in the Portland metro area who ride bikes.
  • We’ll be playing dominoes somewhere.

PDX Pipeline organizing Dominoes Tournament

A few of us have been talking a while about having a domino tournament after watching the fabulous World Championships on ESPN last summer. We have a couple bars (smoking and non) interested in supporting.

It would be typical six-count to 250 points. We will have an organization meeting in  a couple weeks, with the tourny taking place in September. If you are interested being involved or playing, contact or leave a comment here.

From the NYT:

After Luck With Poker, ESPN Bets on New York Dominoes

The next big thing in sports programming is … dominoes?

John Marshall Mantel for The New York Times

ESPN has scouted dominoes at the Altamira Club in the Bronx.

To the occasional domino player, it is a stretch to even call this quiet game of straight-faced strategy a sport. But anyone who has spent time in a Latino neighborhood in New York City could testify that dominoes played there — with the slammed-down tiles, the verbal sparring, the bragging and bluffing — is no parlor game.
