Nov 23: Busdriver, Daedeius, Antmic and the Mayor at Holocene

The Mayor(Pretty Please?) told me he is playing at the Holocene, is sick, and would like to breathe his germs on you. So, here is the information from the site:

Friday 23 November

Holocene Presents…
Busdriver link
Daedelus link
Antimc link
DJ Pretty Please link

From the ashes of a now somewhat barren LA scene came and went Regan Farquhar, better known as Busdriver. As a certified grade-A byproduct of the Goodlife Cafe’s tail-end and the humble beginnings of Project Blowed (read: the birthplace of contemporary indie hip hop), Busdriver has built an ironclad reputation for being a chop-maestro and style monster. In a genre where fans herald groups for either their artsy pretensions, or risk-free plain-song, he manages the balance while acting as a torch bearer for the early 90’s Los Angeles underground hip-hop scene. Regan will be joined by his Weatherman cohort / reigning prince of glitch-and-stitch production, Daedelus, as well as Antimc, L.A producer on the rise.. Be about it.

Malice is in a New Video Shot in Portland and the Band Plays at Holocene on November 15th

Description: Kelly Moe stars as diva stripper of Devil’s Point with a whole lot more than meets the eye! Featuring Maile Thiesen (bassist) & cameos by Malice & Viva Las Vegas! Directed by James Westby & Erica Brown.

Update: Interview & Photos With Malice: Let Her Entertain You

I am putting it behind the cut because it is possibly not work appropriate–although it does say censored, where is the uncensored?— and also the video might just start playing when you hit this page due to it’s Myspaceness (seriously, why aren’t you people on Facebook instead?)

Oh yeah, the Band is Basic Fix and they play the Holocene on November 15th

Blackbird Presents…
Are you ready to fall in love with the B-52s of Cambodian pop? If that’s not a question you thought you’d ever be asked, then you’ve missed out on the infectious multicultural dance music of Dengue Fever. So named for a disease that their organist contracted in Cambodia, the Los Angeles-based band is composed of Americans with the exception of Cambodian singer Ch’hom Nimol, who provides lovely vocals (usually in her language of Khmer) and even lovelier mod dance moves. Nimol was a successful pop star in her home country, performing for the royal family on several occasions. Upon recruiting her in 2002, Dengue Fever knew that she was the perfect person to give them a Cambodian voice. Dengue Fever has captivated audiences all along the coast with their unique sound, which sends “world music” crashing straight into 60s psychedelic pop.

Novmber 4: The Barfly Nominees are in and The Award Show is Today at Mt. Tabor Legacy

This is an invite-only event. Normally, I would not post invite-only here, but it was already on the Barfly website, and hey–you might know one of these people and possibly mooch one of their VIP tix…I mean, congratulate them. And why am I not up for “Most Good Writer”–sounds like it was written specifically for my illiteracy (rhyming on-timing!).

My lovely fall sickness seems to be nearly gone (the contagion is for sure), so I’m going to do my best to get out there tonight as several of these people are friends of mine (Atom 13, Malice, Chris Haberman, Phil Ragaway, William Slater – “hottest item not on the menu”= ha!). If so, expect some good pictures this coming week.

Now Non-contagious, Julian

And the nominees are…

The people have spoken, and BarFly has listened. Final BarFly Award voting will be conducted live and in person at the ultra-fabulous, oh-so-exclusive, BarFly Awards Gala, on Sunday, November 4th – check your inboxes for your personal invites, beautiful people, and hope your tears don’t stain your pillowcases, hoi polloi.

Now, without further ado, the 2007 BarFly Award nominees are… Read the rest of this entry »
