Sarah Palin provides the entertainment during debates? BINGO!

Sarah Palin Bingo for VP Debate

by Diana Bayless, wideshot studios

Here in Portland, there probably won’t be too much debate on who will be favored, so why not take part in a national game, as we watch Joe Biden maintain his composure at what will sure to be some very entertaining remarks from the beauty queen from Alaska?  Aside from the levy of drinking games (this one preferred), there’s also a lovely game of Sarah Palin Bingo that will sure to delight.

Click here for the site where you can print the Palin Bingo cards – four versions plus a template to create your very own.  Brilliant.

I’ll be heading to the Bagdad Theatre for tonight’s festivities, and they will be festive.  But should this place be just too packed, thanks to all the advertising Bagdad has been getting, here are the other options of VP Debate watch parties for your viewing delight (er… anguish) tonight.

April 28: Kevin Phillips at the Bagdad

Kevin Phillips is a former Republican party strategist who is now better known for a series of books criticizing the current GOP, as well as analyzing underlying influences on American politics and economics. In Wealth and Democracy, he analyzed the (baleful to his mind) impact of the rich on American politics. His American Dynasty is a critique of the “House of Bush.” In American Theocracy, Phillips bemoaned the role of religion, oil and debt in America.

His latest book, Bad Money, looks at how finance became an increasingly significant and dangerous element of the American economy. Powells is bringing Phillips to the Bagdad Theater to discuss the book. He will be speaking at 7PM on Monday April 28. Tickets are $26 (and include a copy of the book) and are available here.

While Phillips has strong viewpoints, he is a fair and reasonable person and his presentation is likely to be informative, if potentially dispiriting. Finance is not a topic that comes easy to most readers, so this speech may be of extra value.

If you want a test drive, listen to Phillips discussing his book on the Diane Rehm show.

November 12: Out of the Book Films with David Halberstam

David Halberstam, perhaps best known for The Best and the Brightest, died in a car wreck shortly before completing The Coldest Winter, a history of the Korean War. Powells has chosen the book as the subject of its second Out of the Book film. The 28-minute film will be shown on November 12 at the Bagdad Theater. Tickets are $9.

In addition to the movie, the film’s producer will interview Korean War veteran Dick Raybould, Morris Buckwalter, formerly of Trailblazers management and sportswriter John Strawn about the book and about Halberstam.

While it may seem strange to have two sports speakers at an event about the Korean War, their inclusion makes great sense as Halberstam wrote as extensively in the realm of sports, as he did in politics. Halberstam was one of the great journalists of the 20th century and he is a worthy subject of this exciting new means integration of book and film media

ace hotel picnic

PORTLAND, Oregon (CNN) — In the winter, the residents of this Pacific Northwest city hunker down for the gray rain that drills the city sidewalks for days on end. Locals drink loads of strong coffee, read books and take up knitting with zeal reserved in other parts of the nation for church going or clubbing…Read More (not bad actually, and it has my ‘hood/park- Laurelhurst)

PS: CNN–I like that whole CNN PIPELINE idea you are running with, catchy name…sounds familiar though?
